Created to mark 135 years since Melanio Oliva’s first tobacco crop in Cuba in 1886, the Oliva Serie V 135th Anniversary Edición Limitada gives the Serie V blend a format that immediately sets this release apart. Introduced in 2021, it comes as a 5 1/2 x 54 perfecto with a rounded head and sharply tapered foot, concentrating the opening before the cigar widens into a fuller expression of the blend. Smoked at an unhurried pace, this size generally offers about 60 to 85 minutes.
A dark Ecuadorian Habano Sun Grown wrapper surrounds a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos. The profile lands in the medium-full range, with coffee, leather, cedar, earth, pepper, caramel, chocolate, and natural sweetness leading to a rich espresso finish. That balance of body and detail helped this exact release earn a 91-point rating.
Presentation is part of the appeal here. Each release is arranged in a distinctive fan-shaped box of 12 cigars, and a secondary foot band highlights the 135th anniversary occasion. Initial production was limited to 15,000 boxes, though strong demand led Oliva to continue the cigar through periodic allocations.
