Undercrown Shade Connecticut by Drew Estate was introduced in 2015 as a lighter expression within the Undercrown portfolio, with blending led by Willy Herrera at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Nicaragua. Rather than reworking the original maduro formula superficially, the line was built around an Ecuador-grown Connecticut-seed wrapper, giving the collection its own identity from the start.

Across the line, that wrapper is paired with an Ecuador Sumatra binder and a filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos. The result is a medium-bodied profile that is notably softer and creamier than the original Undercrown, while still carrying the structure and richness associated with Drew Estate. Notes commonly associated with the series include cedar, nuts, light pepper, and a measured natural sweetness, making it a Connecticut-style cigar with more depth than the category often suggests.

Its place within the broader Undercrown family is defined less by strength than by balance. Undercrown Shade Connecticut by Drew Estate keeps the line's emphasis on layered flavor and modern blending, but channels it through a smoother, more refined wrapper-driven style that has made it one of Drew Estate's established interpretations of the Connecticut profile.
