Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro extends the Melanio concept in a darker direction, using a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos. Produced in Nicaragua, the line keeps the box-pressed presentation associated with the Melanio name while shifting the profile toward deeper earth, espresso, cocoa, and pepper notes supported by the richness of Jalapa-grown ligero.
Rather than functioning as a separate one-off release, this is a full product line built around the same blend identity across multiple vitolas. The result is a fuller, more layered expression than the original Serie V Melanio, with the sweetness and density expected from San Andrés leaf but still tied to Oliva’s established approach to balance and structure within the Serie V family.
The line has also earned meaningful critical recognition that helped define its reputation. The Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Churchill received 95 points from Cigar Aficionado, and the Torpedo was named Cigar Snob’s Cigar of the Year for 2021 with a 95-point rating. Those honors were awarded to specific cigars rather than the entire series, but they underscore how successfully the line translated the Melanio style into a maduro format. ...Read More

Blown away
If there's any blend that could qualify as perhaps overhyped, it's this one. So I was suspicious going in, and more than pleasantly surprised. Every flavor is electrifying, the strength is palpable, and the draw is wonderful.

Another amazing cigar from Oliva.
This is one of my new favorite smokes, and I have to keep some on hand in the humidor. It has a smooth easy draw and even burn. The flavors grow in strength as you make it through the halfway mark, and the spice fades as it becomes sweeter with hints of coffee and chocolate (my weakness) getting stronger, while keeping the toasty/nutty flavors until the end as well. You should definitely pick up a box today and enjoy the delightful smoking experience the Melanio offers.

Sweet!
Construction and burn were excellent. The initial flavors were Woody, sweet, and spicy. The second third intensified the sweetness with an almost vanilla retrohale. The final third was almost too sweet, but never quite crossed that line. I prefer the natural as more of the flavors shine through, but for Maduro fans, this is a must-try!
