Excalibur I

A consistently fine cigar

I've been smoking these for over 30 years. They are my #1 go-to any time I have some quality time to kill. Construction is flawless and the taste develops smoothly throughout the stick. I can't recommend them enough.

Excalibur No. 660

Light Acidic Notes and a Good Draw

There have been many, many Excaliburs in my past, of all shapes and sizes, but this is the first time I've tried the 660s and it does hit a little differently than the others, in my opinion. The wrappers on my particular box have been a little underwhelming looking...a little splotchy and less brilliant than I remember, but that's all right. No grit and only slightly oily. Firmness is a 5/5, quite firm.

At first light, there's plenty of grassiness on the palate. Wheatgrass and some bread-like qualities. The draws have been pretty spot on, no complaints. No troubles with the burn either and the ash that this big fella produces is firm and splotchy gray. In the second half, those light grass notes round off a little sweeter into pumpernickel, but there's still an acidic note that hangs on, reminding me of sour milk. The final third is where the woody notes evolve, although they never become spicy. In that sense, this seems more like a mild cigar to my palate. It's pretty singular in its complexity and remains mostly consistent.

I would give this cigar to the intermediate smoker, good for middle of the day smoking. It won't sit heavily on the palate and the draw really is quite nice. No maintenance required. I also think the value is decent at this price. In total, you have a solid smoke here.

Excalibur I

As good as any, better than most.

This smoke takes me back to the 90's when we were all into cigars. I am so glad I ordered these. The draw has been perfect on every cigar. The construction has been flawless ( no canoeing or uneven burning). The flavor started robust but not harsh and stayed that way all the way to the end. And yes, I am one of those guys that takes off the band and smokes it to the end. Great smoke!

I smoked this down to the 'nub... always a good sign. Over the last 30 years the Excalibur has evolved into a medium bodied cigar, away from the powerful stick it once was. For me, a welcome development. What remains is its classic cedar character and excellent construction + draw. A tad more complexity would lift this cigar to a perfect 5 star rating. Two thumbs up!

Excellent cigars. In my opinion, the best for the money.

Strong, smooth, and burns well every time right down to the end. Doesn’t get harsh like many cigars do as they burn down. Great with a glass of whisky! These have been my go-to cigars for over 30 years!

This stick is really great. I would say low-medium body. Starts out with some spice but smooths out into cream after about 5 draws. Very consistent throughout and LOTS of smoke, which is awesome. Always good to have a 5 pack of these in your humidor.
