It all started in 2012, the first founder line was released and the different sizes were named after influential steampunk leaders, such as H.G. Wells and Ada Lovelace. The blend is composed of 5 different tobaccos from 4 different countries. The wrapper is an eight year old leaf known as H-47 Pleno Sol.
The cigars of the first line came with an actual metal gear around their band. The specifics of the origins of the tobaccos are purposely undisclosed. They intend to encourage connoisseurs to take a bold chance and step into the unknown, much like the steampunk inventors of the Victorian age.
This line gave way to Foundry becoming an entire brand. The brand features inspired lines such as the War of Currents, which is homage to Edison and Tesla’s competition to control electricity and share it with the masses. The Chillin’ Moose line features affordable cigars and according to its maker’s the Moose is relaxed because “he knows a secret – you don't need an expensive cigar to have a good time.”
