What does one expect from a Nub? In the cigar industry, Nub is the brand that figured out a way to hit the sweet spot of a cigar faster and stay there longer.

The brain behind this innovation belongs to Sam Leccia. As a passionate aficionado, Sam’s purpose in creating Nub was to find a way to enhance the smoking experience by prolonging the most pleasurable part.

Once Sam had the idea he started experimenting in his garage to find the best way to roll. Sam brought the idea and the cigar he had rolled to Oliva Cigar, where he worked as a sales representative. The Olivas were at first hesitant about the cigar because it could be seen as a gimmick and not taken seriously as they intended.

The Olivas were at first hesitant about the cigar because it could be seen as a gimmick and not taken seriously as they intended.     The brand was launched in 2008 and to promote the new venture they had several giveaways, including a year worth of cigars and a car. The prize car was a custom 2008 BMW Mini Cooper Convertible. It was felt that the car represented the brand because like the cigar it was short and fat compared to its counterparts.     The Nub cigar size options are at most 4 inches long. The ring gauges range between 56 and 66. Nub cigars have the same amount of tobacco as most Churchills and their smoking sessions last about the same amount of time.     Nub features rich Nicaraguan filler tobacco in their cigars and they also use it to bind the cigars. The brand lines have different wrapper options, including Habano, Brazilian Maduro, Connecticut, and Cameroon. Nub also has a line of cigars infused with coffee flavors.     Sam Leccia left Nub and Oliva Cigars in 2010 and production is now under Studio Tobac. Studio Tobac is a branch of Oliva Cigars partnered with Ernesto Padilla, a Cuban immigrant who produces premium cigars with his own Miami-based boutique brand.      Nub invigorated the cigar industry and gained an immense following. Jose Oliva, the chief executive officer of Oliva Cigars, confirmed there are longer doubts about the brand “There's sincerity in it. The proof is in the imitations.” Since its release, other brands have created similar models to achieve the heightened smoke experience a Nub provides.     Nub has become an established brand. It has earned various accolades from several cigar publications including a 90+ rating from Cigar Aficionado and “2008 Best Buy” from Cigar Insider.     To answer the original question, when you smoke a Nub cigar you should expect a heightened experience. Except for an encounter where you find yourself enjoying the peak moments of a cigar for a longer period but sooner than usual. Don’t snub a Nub because it is a new concept, fall into its indulgence.
