Description

This is a top flight Honduran cigar from its head to its tuck and possibly the best Honduran cigar at that. Hoyo de Monterrey is crafted with Cuban-seed tobacco carefully cultivated in the richest Honduran soil.
The story goes that the original Piloto Cubano seeds for the production of the Hoyo de Monterey, were smuggled from Cuba to Honduras by diplomatic pouch.
Made "en la manera de los Indios" (the Indian way) the Hoyo de Monterrey cigar is still simply a product of the sun, the wind, and the soil. A full-bodied cigar of straightforward character, Hoyo de Monterrey invites you to try the standard for all Honduran cigars. After a long history as one of top Cuban made cigars, the Hoyo de Monterrey tradition has been firmly established in Honduras under the masterful guidance of cigar master Estelo Padrón.
In its own full-bodied way, the Honduran Hoyo de Monterrey is, in the judgment of many, more Cuban in character even than the Cuban Hoyo. Hoyo De Monterrey Sabrosos

Looking for more "Hoyo-ness"...

Good construction, rolled a tad tight but drew ok and lasted a long while. Soft white ash which loses structural integrity and falls off after an inch, a theme I'm experiencing with other Punch & HdM cigars. What's going on? Are there unknown additives or processes to blame? A good cigar overall.

Less Full Bodied, More Likely Med +

A good smoke, but have a slight preference for the Punch Rothschild Maduro. The Maduro on these Roths have always taken the edge off of what can be a pretty rustic cigar. Great construction, draw, and silky smooth ash... what in the world is going on with these ashes? They're as soft as a baby's bottom, and fall off after about an inch.

ROBUST!

When I was way into cigars (especially maduros,) I had to have one of these dark, oily beauties. Even as a regular smoker, the Hoyo de Monterrey Double Maduro absolutely melted my tongue and scrambled my eggs.

If you're an experienced smoker with a leather tongue and iron skull, and just can't find a stick that satisfies, THIS is your cigar.

Hoyo De Monterrey Rothschild no cello

Great Short Smoke for Canadian Cold (or ADHD)

I live in Canada and love cigars. Smoking outside is best done in short duration, especially in the winter. I like high-quality cigars, but also hate wasting a great cigar when I'm no longer interested. These short sticks are perfect. They have all the quality of larger cigars but in a smaller format. Outstanding value as well.
