of the dark, Sumatra-seed Ecuadoran wrapper, all the tobacco comes from farms across Nicaragua. The Garcias spent many years obtaining these rare seed varietals.
These glorious full bodied cigars begin with two different leaves for the binder. One Criollo Nicaraguan, one Corojo Nicaraguan. This ingenious mix is blended with the finest Nicaraguan filler before it's adorned with the Sumatra blend wrapper.
As is typical of Cuban construction, the cigar is made with two binders, one Corojo and one Criollo. The tobacco comes from at least three regions. The La Bonita Two farm in Jalapa, El Pedrero in Estelí and San Rafael in Namanji.
Cigar lovers quickly took notice and My Father the Judge was recognized by Cigar Aficionado Magazine. Starting in 2017, the blend received a 93 point rating and #7 on the Top 25 “This cigar delivers, with satisfying notes of chocolate and gingersnap driven by an underlying red pepper spice and plenty of nutty character”. It wasn't long before it was awarded again.
In 2021 it dropped in the ranks of the Top 25 falling to #17 however the blend received another impressive 93 point rating Cigar Aficionado is quoted saying “The Grand Robusto has the look and taste of a chocolate bar, with sweet hints of peanuts, caramel and just a touch of red pepper spice.”
In 2024 the third time's the charm, climbing to the #1 spot of the Top 25 winning Cigar of the Year for 2024 with an amazing 98 point rating! Cigar Aficionado magazine said “The Grand Robusto’s thick ring gauge allows for a thorough exploration of Nicaragua’s tobacco appellations, making for a cigar that is rich and complex. It shows an ample core of earth, toast and wood along with finer nutty details and sweet undercurrents all amounting to a bold smoke that resonates with balance and satisfaction. Every puff is certainly a cross section of Nicaragua’s finest soils, but beyond that, it also affirms a passion for tobacco, a strong work ethic, and an even stronger belief in the power of family.”— Gregory Mottola December 2024
Anyone who's skeptical needs to take a draw. The passion is palpable from the very start!
