A Background Cigar
I'm looking at an attractive reddish-brown Habano wrapper, smooth to the touch. A good squeeze tells me this cigar is on the soft side, 2/5 on firmness. So far, they have all been constructed well and I've found that the draw is greatly manipulated based on how aggressively you decide to cut. If the draw is too tight, I just clip another 1/8" and voila, just right. As noted by other reviews, this is not a particularly complex smoke and it doesn't evolve much throughout, but it's a fine flavor full of sweet cedar. I will say it's also on the spicy side, brimming with white pepper notes. The ash is gray and firm.
My first stick was all right, but each subsequent smoke has benefitted greatly from a few months in the humidor. Some cigars are very good right out of the box but this one needs some age. All in all, it's a good smoke, though I wouldn't choose one for a concert in the park or after dinner treat. It's more of a "background smoke" for me, if that makes sense. A solid one-note experience. The only complaint I might have is the price, as I've had many other cigars which are more diverting for less than $200 a box. I've also bought a couple of boxes of these in Gigante (6x60) and I really think that size and shape is a better experience. I think the cooler burn rounds off some rough edges, but that may just be personal preference. It's worth a look for the intermediate smoker if you can grab them on sale.

I finally got around to trying Monty's Miami Deco after sampling Romeo Y Julieta's and they are wonderful, both are excellent smokes but I am leaning towards the Monty slightly, now I'm off to sample the H. Upmann version to see if it is as enjoyable as the other two.

Welcoming 2022
Started smoking this Monte a few minutes after midnight, so officially January 1st. What an awesome way to start the new year! Great cigar, very fresh (a bit too fresh) but with a great draw. Nice oily wrapper. Plenty of peppery notes. It has a nice, tight ash as well. I'll be trying the other 2 Miami Deco's as soon as I free up some space in my humidor.
