Dunhill
DUNHILL (discontinued)
while they drove.
As a renowned aficionado, Alfred found success selling Cuban cigars, such as their Don Candido and Don Alfredo. Before the revolution, they had several deals with different cigar manufacturers in Cuba. Their cigars were in great demand and often featured exclusive and highly sought-after tobacco.
Dunhill was the choice tobacconist of choice for George IV, King of the United Kingdom and Emperor of India, and Sir Winston Churchill. Legend has it Churchill kept his personal collection in a humidor of the shop. At one point during the London Blitz, Churchill was contacted in the early morning to assure his collection was safe and had survived the store’s destruction.
Dunhill had a unique relationship with Cuba throughout its generations. Alfred retired in 1929 and his son Alfred Henry took charge of the company.
When the revolution began the old production agreements ceased. In 1982, a new contract began with the Cuban-state run cigar company, Cubatabaco, whose cigar production is now known as Habanos SA.
Dunhill grew unsatisfied with the agreement and the production in Cuba discontinued in 1991. It became a non-Cuban cigar once manufacturing moved to the Canary Islands. General Cigar Company became responsible for distribution and production split between the Dominican Republic and Honduras.
The mild elegant strength cigars were originally what drew aficionados to Dunhill. Over the years, their portfolio has expanded to include stronger cigars such as the Signed Range and full-bodied Dunhill Heritage.
In the face of immense change since its introduction Dunhill cigars have continued to uphold their integrity as an affluent cigar. Their handmade cigars are fitting for a king and global hero, making them the perfect component for any celebration.
