Mellow Complexity, Chewy, Sweet and Rich
The first time I tried a box of Diesel cigars, I purchased a box of their Disciple Lanceros...stunning cigar in every way. I liked them so much that I then picked up a couple of boxes of Unholy Trinity figurados, which were also very good. This is my third foray into their product line and once again, I'm very satisfied.
The Shorty Gordo checks all the boxes of shape, construction and value for me. At $5 per stick, what I'm looking at is a well made smoke with an easy draw and good complexity of changing flavors. The first two thirds bring a chewy mellowness. The flavor reminds me of when I was a kid...my mother used to take me to a family owned health foods store that made the best brownies I've ever had. They were very rich, full of bitter, chewy dark chocolate with an almost savory sage note. Lots of depth. In the final third of this cigar, those notes turn into a more grain and leather flavor...kind of reminiscent of Raisin Bran. The tobacco is good up to the hilt, tempting me to singe my fingertips up to the last draw. It produces a firm ash which holds on well and the smoke never turns bitter.
This is a solid 40 minute smoking experience for a good price and Diesel has earned my trust with a consistent product line. Keep up the good work... I'll be back for more.

I'm always on the quest to find short figurados with large ring sizes. In the past I've had some good Diesel lanceros, so I bought a box of these...and then I bought another box... and I keep coming back. This smoke has found itself to be my go-to stick to cram into my pocket before I jump in my car.
I like the shape because it's a pretty hands free stick when I'm on the go. And the flavor profile is good enough to be enjoyed but not so complex that I need to sit and contemplate it. A good "background" cigar, if you will, and the price suits that role perfectly.
Apart from these observations, what stands out to me the most is the consistently silky draw. After nearly 60 of these, I've yet to have a plug, so I know the construction is good. The initial light-up is bitter, but mellows out into mostly soft cedar wood notes. It's not frilly, but neither is it bare bones. A respectable workhorse in my humidor. I'll keep coming back for more.
