Arturo Fuente line up, the Fuente Opus X has developed a loyal following of fans that hunt for their cigars around the world, helping it to gain a reputation as one of the greatest cigars in history.
Extremely rare and hard to find, OpusX Cigars often sell out before they even hit the shelf. When it was launched in 1995, the Fuente Opus X was the very first Dominican Puro, albeit using Cuban seed to plant the tobacco. The wrapper‘s leaf was Grown in the shade, this new reddish-brown Dominican Tobacco leaf produced a flavor and sensation that was simultaneously smooth and bold, with a sweetness that would seem to belie this full-bodied smoke.
Fuente took this tobacco and used his century + history of premium cigar knowledge to form a flawless, nearly perfect cigar, one that has would win countless awards in the years to come including multiple 92+ reviews as well as the #6 Cigar of The Year for 2014 by Cigar Aficionado!
Thanks to the rich, volcanic soil of the Chateau de la Fuente Tobacco Plantation, the Opus X exhibits beautiful notes of red pepper and leather. Between the silky Rosado wrapper, and the unique blend of Cuban seed tobaccos, the Carlos Fuente Fuente Opus X offering a smoke experience that remains unmatched in the industry.
The Opus X name was designed to “Project X” the code name used for the project, as everyone believed that growing the tobacco they wanted in the Dominican Republic was impossible. The word “Opus” was added, according to Carlos Fuente Jr., because it refers to a “creative work, masterpiece, a work of a lifetime.”.
Here is what Cigar Aficionado had to say about the #6 Cigar of 2014:
"When Carlos Fuente Jr. was told he merely assembled cigars, rather than making them, he was insulted. When he was told it was impossible to grow fine wrappers in the Dominican Republic, he was transformed into a man on a mission. For nearly 20 years he has shown off the beauty, power and pizazz of Cuban-seed, shade-grown wrapper leaves harvested from his majestic Chateau de la Fuente wrapper farm in the Bonao Valley of the Dominican Republic. Those leaves are the hallmark of the Fuente Fuente OpusX line, one of the most successful cigar launches in modern memory.
Fuente Fuente OpusX hit the market in November 1995 with seven sizes and a consumer frenzy that forced some retailers to limit purchases in many cases to two cigars per customer. Often, the cigars never even made it to the humidor in a cigar shop. The brand has been expanded over the years (and demand has calmed to a more manageable level, although the cigars can still be hard to find) and the PerfecXion X is one of the relatively newer sizes. With the trademark Fuente Fuente OpusX spice and leathery kick, the smoke also has notes of espresso and oaky wood. It’s for fans of full-bodied smokes, and for those who know the Dominican Republic for growing some of the world’s most intriguing wrapper"
The Arturo Fuente Fuente OpusX was awarded the #6 Cigar of The Year for 2014 by Cigar Aficionado and received an outstanding 92-rating from in their October 2016 issue!
