Alcazar
ALCAZAR
Alcazar’s record-shattering times.
Alcazar was purchased by August Uihlein and Fred Pabst at a whopping $28,500 in the 1880’s, roughly around $635,276 in today’s currency. Uihlein and Pabst were esteemed beer barons of Milwaukee who acquired immense amounts of wealth in their lifetime.
Louis Kindling, a German immigrant, founded the brand around a decade after he moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alcazar made Kindling a very rich man and his production company, M&N Cigar Manufacturers, a successful operation. In the late 1920’s, M&N Cigar began partnering with J.C. Newman Cigar Co.
J.C. Newman Cigar Co. was established in 1895. The brand started out in a small Ohio barn, producing cigars for the local grocer. Over time, J.C. Newman Cigar Co. grew to be one of the largest cigar operations in America.
Alcazar, like many other brands, took a huge hit due to the Great Depression. The brand was looking to be discontinued but then J.C. Newman stepped in and bought the brand rights in 1938. Newman had a great deal of respect for the popular brand and the logo design has remained virtually the same as when it was first established.
J.C. Newman Cigar Co. is one of the biggest legends in the cigar industry. They were the first to individually wrap cigars in cellophane. Their method has become an industry standard. Rest assured that any cigar on J.C. Newman’s portfolio is worthwhile because they literally set the bar for quality, time and time again.
In 2011, J.C. Newman opened a state-of-the-art cigar factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. The factory is called Puro de Esteli Nicaragua S.A. or PENSA and is one of the largest employers in Nicaragua.
Alcazar cigars are now handmade in Nicaragua. The cigars consist of Nicaraguan filler tobacco and a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. Alcazar cigars have a robust and medium-bodied strength which provides a solid smoking experience.
Since the 19th century, Alcazar has stunned and pleased the palates of those who encounter it. A good cigar is a good cigar, but you know it’s a great one when it lasts as long as Alcazar has. Alcazar cigars are extremely budget-friendly and you can pick some up at Mike’s Cigars.
