Created as Drew Estate’s tribute to Estelí, Nica Rustica by Drew Estate centers on the city and tobacco culture that helped define the company’s identity in Nicaragua. Rather than treating the line as a single blend, Drew Estate has expanded it into a family of regular-production expressions made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, each built around an earthy, straightforward character and a value-minded approach that keeps the focus on flavor rather than ornament.
The original Nica Rustica release, now identified as Nica Rustica Broadleaf, established the line’s bolder side with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder, and Nicaraguan fillers from Jalapa and Estelí. That blend gave the series its dense, rustic profile, often leaning toward pepper, earth, dark coffee, and cocoa. Drew Estate later broadened the range with Nica Rustica Adobe, a separate Nicaraguan-made blend finished in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over a Brazilian binder and Nicaraguan filler, shifting the profile toward sweeter spice and a somewhat brighter, mellower presentation. More recently, Nica Rustica Shade added another direction with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Mexican binder, and a filler mix from Nicaragua, the United States, and the Dominican Republic, offering a smoother, mellow-to-medium interpretation without losing the line’s connection to Estelí.
That evolution is what makes Nica Rustica by Drew Estate distinctive within the broader Drew Estate portfolio. It is not a one-note series, but a collection of affordable handmade cigars built around different expressions of Nicaraguan character. Nica Rustica Short Robusto was a pleasant surprise. I picked up a 5pack a while back and finally finished the lot. Definitely and enjoyable full-bodied cigar. Also, this cigar has a decent price point for a Drew Estate Premium. I have to say I did enjoy this more than some of their other premiums. The cigar has robust notes of wood, earth, and pepper, with a subtle sweetness on the lips. Nica Rustica is another bold and satisfying stick, this is definitely a cigar I will purchase again.

Great daily smoke
I have had these as my daily cigar for a year now. Love the flavor, consistent quality and smooth burn. It is very rare to get an uneven burn or tunneling. Most of those were my fault when lighting. Highly recommend if you like a full flavor cigar.

Flavor is good. Construction is usually good but I do find a couple in each box that have issues. With the price I can live with the occasional construction issue. Belicoso lasts about two and a half hours.

Larutan without the flavor
The first thing that comes to my mind regarding this stick is the old saying "you get what you pay for". Is that bad? Not at all. If you want an inexpensive stick, that is solidly constructed with an easy draw that pours out tons of smoke and is relatively mild to do some serious garage sitting then this may be the smoke for you! Personally I'd rather buy a Larutan or Isla Del Sol Madura and get the creamy, delicious flavors. I find it interesting that this is rated as full bodied as I thought it was really quite mild. Perfect for someone transitioning from flavored smokes like the Larutan & Isla del Sol to non-flavored cigars.

Christopher Columbus's navigational accident introduced to the world at large, four gifts of nature; potatoes, tomatoes, chili peppers, and tobacco. With their Nica Rustica cigar, Drew Estate has proven again that ole Christopher's mistake was the cigar smoker's gift.
The first part of the Nica Rustica reminds me of the taste of black licorice. As the halfway point is crossed, the flavor becomes a subtle hint of cherry wood. And all the while, the Nica produces a copious amount of beautiful blue smoke. After going through at least three boxes, I can say the burn of a Nica is as good as will be found on any other cigar you'll smoke. Add to that a great draw and the Nica Rustica is a must try. Even more so if you like hot chili peppers.

I tried this cigar as a gift. It was wonderful, plenty of smoke and I had a couple hours of enjoyment. I say try one, you may find a new favorite
I can’t believe no one has written a review about this stick yet. One of the first DE sticks I had. It is not a beginners cigar. A full figured cigar that will slap you in the face and tell you everything will be ok. Starts with tons of pepper and eases you into notes not of coffee and oak. The retrohale is a straight up throat punch.
