The line is handmade in the Dominican Republic and built around an Ecuador Sumatra wrapper, with Nicaraguan and Honduran binders covering a filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos.

Across the line, that blend is generally described in medium-bodied terms, balancing the natural spice and sweetness associated with Sumatra leaf with a smoother core of earth, cedar, and pepper. Rather than aiming for the heavier profile found in some of the brand's better-known blends, EP Carrillo Essence Sumatra presents a more measured expression that keeps wrapper influence at the center of the smoking experience.
