Few modern cigar lines wear their concept as clearly as CAO Flathead. Inspired by hot rods and muscle-car culture, the collection is defined by its sharply box-pressed shape, flat cap, and engine-themed frontmarks, but its identity rests just as much on the blend: a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Connecticut Habano binder with Dominican Piloto Cubano ligero and Nicaraguan ligero fillers. The cigars are made in Nicaragua and built around a broad, dense profile that typically lands in the medium- to full-bodied range, with sweetness, leather, dark fruit, and richer earthy notes at the core.

That combination gave the line a distinct place in the CAO portfolio when it debuted, especially at a time when large-ring, box-pressed maduros were becoming a more visible part of the premium market. Flathead’s reputation was strengthened when the CAO Flathead V660 Carb earned 95 points and the No. 3 spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2015, recognition that helped establish the line as more than a thematic release. Across the range, CAO Flathead is best understood as a consistent broadleaf-driven series with bold structure, a heavy use of ligero, and a style that favors depth and weight over finesse.
