LECCIA (discontinued)

Sam Leccia is a bonafide legend. Leccia does not hail from a long lineage of tobacconists. He developed his passion for cigars from a young age and built his legacy on his skill and innovation alone.
In 2000, Leccia began investing into his cigar interests. He took a trip to the Camacho factory in Honduras. While there, Christian Eiroa helped him understand the potential of different tobacco
leaves and it sparked Leccia’s desire to craft cigars.
When Leccia returned, he went home and began experimenting with different cigars in his garage. Leccia did not have access to loose leaves so he would cut open different cigars to mix and match their tobaccos, creating what he called Frankenstein cigars.
Leccia decided to pursue his hobby as a career. He quit his lucrative job in the liquor industry to join the sales team at Oliva Cigar Company. It was here that Leccia made his first mark on the cigar industry. Leccia is the mastermind behind the unusually stubby Nub and Cain series.
Leccia’s creativity was groundbreaking for the cigar industry. The lines of cigars he created are shorter yet a last about the same as a typical Churchill. The focus of these cigars is to capture the best part of a cigar and prolong it, needless to say, Leccia delivered.
In 2010, Leccia parted ways with Oliva Cigar Co. and it led to a disheartening court battle. Leccia’s contract held a clause that prevented him from competing with his former employer.  There was even a lost cigar brand, known as Debut, which was never allowed to be released in the mist of it all.
Three years later, Leccia was finally allowed to return to the cigar industry. He released the iconic Black and White lines and was once again ahead of the pack with imaginative and unique blends.
The Black and White lines both feature tobaccos from 5 different countries. The Black includes Nicaraguan, Dominican, Brazilian Mata Fina, and rare American fire-cured tobacco in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. The White includes Nicaraguan, Dominican, and American Pennsylvania Seco tobacco bound by an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper and is finished with an African Sun Grown wrapper.
Leccia’s return was in part successful due to the Toraño family. Charlie Toraño, of the Toraño Family Cigar Company, is a huge supporter of Leccia. When Leccia left Oliva Cigar Co., Charlie was the first person he turned to for help in returning to the business.
Toraño Family Cigar Co. handled the distribution of Leccia’s cigars so he could focus on creating blends and meeting the aficionados who enjoy his cigars. In 2014, Toraño was acquired by General Cigar Company and they took over the distribution of Leccia cigars as well. Leccia landed a position at General Cigar Co. working on the Foundry brand but left in 2016 to focus on his own brands.
Leccia’s hard work and dedication to quality are evident in every cigar he crafts and aficionados have realized this fact. Cigar publications rave about the quality and avant-garde nature of Leccia’s work. Leccia’s cigars have landed on numerous Top 25 lists and earned several 90+ ratings.
Leccia is one of the most authentic and passionate cigar makers in the industry. His cigar speaks volumes to what a cigar should and can be. As with most things, the best way to figure out if something is the real deal is to try it out for yourself. You can pick up select Leccia cigars at Mike’s Cigars.
