Davidoff cigars have been made in the Dominican Republic under the watchful eye of Hendrik Kelner since the early 1990s, and the vast majority of those cigars have been a mild- to medium-bodied blend of locally grown filler and binder leaves wrapped with creamy, light Connecticut-seed tobacco. With today’s cigar aficionados having developed a tremendous appetite for Nicaraguan cigars, Davidoff’s new leaders aimed at expanding their footprint, and Nicaraguan tobacco became the target.
But rather than opening its own factory in Nicaragua, or contracting out a brand, the Davidoff team opted to make a different move and import tobacco from Nicaragua to its Dominican factory. There, they used tried-and-true construction and quality control methods to bring an entirely new taste profile to the venerable Davidoff brand. The cigars are made at the Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic but all three components- wrapper, binder and filler- are grown in Nicaragua, making it the first Davidoff Nicaraguan Puro. It is a great smoke and amazing twist addition to the Davidoff White selection.
Davidoff Nicaragua is the most exciting cigars from Davidoff in years. The cigar line launched mid-2013 to great fanfare, with three sizes: Robusto, Short Corona and Toro. The Toro was our favorite, showing complexity, elegance and balance, with floral notes, hints of coffee and leather and a very long finish. A beautiful, elegant smoke that’s a worthy addition to the storied Davidoff name.
This release is the "Black Label" of Davidoff cigars, and uses a 10 year old Nicaraguan Havana-seed Rosado wrapper with prime Nicaraguan tobaccos; the binder being pure Jalapa and the filler from the storied regions of Estelí, Condega, Ometepe.
This unique cigar has a bittersweet quality in terms of flavor profile, though not as wild as most Nicaraguan Puros typically are. 10 years in the making gave the tobaccos time to tame, calm down on intensity and become more refined. These tastes will take you on an exotic spicy peppery adventure with an earthy rich aroma.
Davidoff Nicaragua cigars grow milder as it goes, and a palate pleasing sweetness emerges, along with dark bitter chocolate and roasted coffee bean notes building in the final third of this prestigious foray into unbelievable cigars.
A premium cigar experience you won't want to miss. It will answer the all-time question: What if Davidoff made a Nicaraguan cigar? What would that be like?

This is what Cigar Aficionado had to say about Davidoff Nicaragua Toro, Best Cigar of the Year:

"Davidoff’s bold move to launch a cigar crafted entirely from Nicaraguan tobaccos breathed new life into the already strong Davidoff brand, bringing new smokers to the line and winning accolades like never before. But Davidoff didn’t turn to a contract manufacturer, or seek to open its own Nicaraguan factory—the company instead imported Nicaraguan leaf to its efficient Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic (which is run by Hendrik Kelner, who has overseen Davidoff production for more than 20 years) and made Nicaraguan cigars the Davidoff way. The Davidoff Nicaragua Toro earned our No. 3 spot on last year’s Top 25 list, and the robusto size is also a standout smoke, with pleasant notes of coconut and savory wood, complemented by touches of cinnamon." Davidoff Nicaragua received an excellent 91-rating from Cigar Aficionado magazine.
