Asylum
ASYLUM
He had the pedigree, having started in the world of tobacco at the young age of just 8 years old, and Eiora had proven his capability as President of Camacho Cigars. But perhaps the skill most important in the growth of his new brand was Eiora’s marketing skills, which were second to none, boosting the brands to have better name recognition than their competitors.
Eiora’s facility in Nicaragua, known as Tabacaleras Unidas, was able to meet the extremely high standards Lazuka and Baxter desired. To date, production of Asylum cigars is split between the factories in Nicaragua and Honduras. The Honduras factory, known as the Aladino Cigar Factory, is unique because it was one of the first tobacco facilities to be certified by Bayer CropScience, which is the agricultural branch of the major pharmaceutical company. The Aladino Cigar Factory was once a movie theater owned by Eiora’s grandfather, and it now produces premium cigars that delight and entertain aficionados worldwide.
When the work is good the industry takes notice, and Asylum has been receiving rave reviews across the board since the day they launched their first cigars. Based on the success of their larger gauge cigars Asylum has taken the phrase “go big or go home” in a literal sense. They have become leaders in the industry by releasing cigars with rare characteristics such as being sweet-tipped, Insidious, or barrel-aged, Dragon’s Milk.
Asylum asks its customers “What’s your asylum?” They also give you an easy answer, their collection. The purpose of an Asylum cigar is to help you escape the stress of everyday life. The only way to find out if an Asylum cigar is your safe haven is to try one for yourself.

Rating60%Schizo 52x6 TorpedoA very decent cigar for this budgetSo, definitely Maduro! Medium density cigar. Cold - peat, nuts. The first time - a little complicated traction. The smoke is thick and delicious. I would say that the cigar is strong (perhaps only for me). Tastes - nut, pepper and a little something earthy. Decent cigar, better to smoke after meals.

Rating100%Asylum Insidious Connecticut 52x6Great StickThese are great sticks. The sweetened caps are delightful and not overwhelming. Smooth from the first draw. The only issue I’ve had is that the burn REALLY fast. But, that gives me a reason to have another right away.

Rating60%Asylum 13 Robusto 50x5Smooth and PepperyAs you can see in the photo the wrapper had some veins, but the seams were tight. The cold draw offered up some cocoa with pepper and there was a spiciness on my lips as I took it away to light it.
The cigar lit cleanly and the pepper is right up front on this.
Excellent draw. Almost too light for my preference, it made for a quicker than normal smoke for me in the 5X50 robusto size. That said, it didn’t burn hot which was surprising.
As I get into the first third the cigar settles into some cocoa and leather, but for me the predominant flavor is pepper which faded a little into the second third. The cigar needed a quick touch up to even the burn.
For the second third I still have some faint cocoa, earth and pepper, but leather is the big player. I needed to touch up the cigar twice here. I lost the ash during the second touch up so it held well.
In the final third leather and pepper have taken over the fight for first place. Cocoa is a distant third and often times difficult to detect.
Overall: This is a pretty strong cigar. My grandson commented on how it smelled compared to my preferred Oliva V. The expected cocoa and leather were present with a pepper kicker. The flavors were subtle and required some effort for me to dig them out, other than the pepper. The cigar was spicy; my lips were tingling from contact with the wrapper. Tragically, I’m not a pepper guy.
While I gave it a 3 the loss of one star was entirely based on my dislike of a pepper forward cigar and would probably be different if you are the sort who enjoys a pepper kick to your cigar. The cigar itself was tight and burned relatively well, but needed 3 touch ups in a short stick (the other dropped star). If someone offered me one, I’d smoke it, but I definitely won’t search this one out.By Mike

Rating100%Asylum Insidious Connecticut 50x5Excellent, Very EnjoyableThis is an excellent stick right from the start. I love the sweetened tip and it lasted until the end of the 2nd 3rd but didn't detract from the other flavors at all. Great flavors, and super smooth. Draw, burn and ash were all perfect. This would be a great stick in the $8-9 dollar range but at less than $6 it is out of this world.
